Paddle Your Own Canoe
C3 Global Technologies offers a unique program for select clients called “Paddle Your Own Canoe.” The program features an exceptional opportunity to come face to face with your own inner self, and master the life skills needed for success. It takes its format from our individual coaching and leadership programs, but uses the analogy of a canoe trip as a way of exploring the endless possibilities of human existence, and the preparation and choices one makes along the journey.
The phrase ‘paddle your own canoe’ dates back at least to the early 19th century, and has often been associated with the need to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. However, if you consider a typical canoe trip, you find that is not the whole truth, as seen in the following video.
The highlight of the program is a week-long canoe trip to confirm what we’ve learned, to measure how well we have done, and to help us set our sights on the future. The program can be tailored to suit an individual, family or group. The number of participants in any season is limited, and normally no more than 6 can complete a wilderness canoe trip, although special arrangements for camp sites for larger groups can be explored upon request.
The program begins with a comprehensive individual assessment using our ADVanced Insights process, including a thorough review of the profile created. This serves as the basis for four weekly one-on-one sessions in which we explore some elements of our Coaching program, which focuses on attitude development, interpersonal skills, and goal setting.
The next four weeks are devoted to planning and preparations for the canoe trip – itinerary, route, activities, responsibilities, familiarization with and/or instruction in the equipment required, menus, procurement of supplies, travel reservations and other logistics – and establishing the expectations and criteria for success. Additional elements of the Coaching and Leadership processes will provide a framework for discussion.
A final four-weekly sessions module after the completion of the canoe trip draws out the importance of our accomplishments for understanding oneself, setting goals for the future, and examining the issues and concerns identified during the course of the program, and how to manage, resolve or overcome these as appropriate. The program concludes with our Annual Goals Review process.
